New Delhi : On Monday, the supreme court said that centre was obligated to grant permanent commission to Women Army Officers after the judgement of Delhi high court in 2010 .
Supreme Court says, the permanent commission will apply to all women officers in the Army in service, irrespective of their years of service. Indian Army's Lt. S.C also said , Women officers in the Army can get Command and Criteria appointments on par with male officer , asserting that the government’s argument against it were " discriminatory , disturbing & based on SSC and women who have served less than 14 years in the Army can also be considered for permanent commission.
The Mindset must change , said Justice D Y Chandrachud and Ajay Rastogi while reading the order that the centre regarding the physiological features of women have no link to their rights .
Women Army Officers brought laurels to the county , the supreme court said referring to women officers who work shoulders to shoulder with men , who had made the country proud .
In August 2018 , P.M Narendra Modi in his Independence Day speech announced women officers in India armed forces would soon get the option to go through the benefits of permanent commission through the SSC.
