Trump , ” Saving big deal for later with india “

WASHINGTON : On Tuesday, U.S President Donald Trump , almost a week ahead of his India visit said he is ” Saving big deal with India for later and he ” does not know ” if it will be done before the presidential election in November.

“We’re not treated very well by India but I happen to like Prime Minister Modi a lot. And he also told me we’ll have 7 million people between the airport and the event. And the stadium, I understand, is sort of semi under-construction but it’s going to be the largest stadium in the world. So it’s going to be very exciting.” Mr. Trump added , repeating the part about Mr. Modi having told him that 7 million people would greet him between the airport and the stadium .

The U.S President is due to attend an event , ” Namaste Trump ” in India, Gujarat , which is scheduled on Feb 24 & 25 at Motera cricket stadium in Ahmedbad with around 1,25,000 people attending.

Meanwhile, the US-India Strategic and Partnership Forum said the latest quarterly data depict continuation of overall positive bilateral trade trends. The third quarter data reflects some downslide in growth rates.

The US exported $45.3 billion worth of goods and services to India in the first three quarters 2019, up 4 per cent from the corresponding period in the previous year; and the US imported $65.6 billion worth of goods and services from India, up 5 per cent from the previous year’s $62.5 billion level for the same period, USISPF added .

The US remains the top trading partner for India in terms of trade in goods and services . While the bilateral trade between the US and India is approximately 62 per cent in goods and 38 per cent in services, the bilateral trade between India and China is dominated by goods.
